Hello: I currently have a USB Motu 828mk3 audio interface running in pro tools 11.1.2 with no issues up until I connected another Midi only Motu Microlite (5x5) USB interface and all of the attendant drivers. Windows 7 PC confirmed successful installation of device. However, upon relaunching protools and clicking on Midi setup, the big bad pro tools promptly crashed. What the.Who the.!! Once I unplug the Motu microlite PT11 seems to work fine.

I would appreciate any suggestions on making this work or could it? Hey Guys; Thanks for the responses. I have six 2.0 and two 3.0 USB ports on my PC.

The 828mk3 does have its own power source. The only devices getting power from the USB bus are the PT11 ilok and the Motu microlite; however all three are connected to 2.0 USB ports. FYI: The first time the PC crashed upon loading in the Motu microlite, I did notice that upon rebooting the PC, I could not relaunch PT11. It was acting like there was no ilok. I jiggled the ilok and unpluged the microlite and was able to correct that issue. Perhaps the ilok got loose from moving the PC around? Again, the issue now is that after successfully loading in the latest Motu microlite drivers into windows, PT11 launches normally and opens my last session but as soon as I click midi setup, the computer crashes and I am left staring at a blue Bios screen telling me that pro tools was not shut down properly.

It's very easy to jar loose the iLok; that's why I have a dongle buddy (short USB extension) between the back of the computer and the iLok.

Do you really need two sets of drivers (one for the 828 and one for the Microlite)? It's very easy to jar loose the iLok; that's why I have a dongle buddy (short USB extension) between the back of the computer and the iLok.

Do you really need two sets of drivers (one for the 828 and one for the Microlite)? Hey Jack: You might be on to something. The reason I loaded the latest windows 7 drivers is because this microlite was transferred from a windows XP computer running a Nuendo system. Should this even matter? I am now trying to incorporate it with the 828 on the PT11 system (Win 7). So, I am thinking that these two Motu interfaces might be using diffferent drivers, since the 828mk3 was installed with PT11 a few weeks ago right out of the box and now I have loaded the latest win 7 driver for the microlite.

Do you think I should upgrade the 828mk3 drivers? I think that the Motu site lists both units under the same drivers.

Could this be the solution? I am reticent to mess with the 828, since it is working fine. Appreciate your thoughts. Hey Jack: You might be on to something.

Apple pages resume templates free. I think that the Motu site lists both units under the same drivers. Could this be the solution? I am reticent to mess with the 828, since it is working fine. Appreciate your thoughts. It doesn't matter where the Microlite was used before - where it's being used now matters.

Different operating systems handle things differently, especially when you're talking generational like between XP and Win7. If MOTU lists both units to use the same drivers - I would do just that. Delete the Microlite drivers and the 828 drivers; then install the newest drivers from MOTU so both units work with just one piece of software. Going through the MOTU drivers listings on their site takes time, patience, and a careful selection of what you want. I know because I've been through that with my MIDI Timepiece AVUSB MIDI interface.

First thing I would do is clone my boot drive, uninstall all MOTU drivers, then install and plug them into different USB ports. Or you can try just plugging into different USB ports, and let Windows 7 recognize everything automatically - no cloning or uninstallation needed. It sounds silly, but sometimes it works. It saved me at least three times when I would have trouble with my MBOX back in the day. I wish I had the technical know-how to explain why (different USB root hubs, I'm guessing). It sounds silly BUT IT WORKED!!! Thanks a lot Mesaone!

Once I switched the microlite to another USB port on a different windows USB controller, I was loving life again. I owe you one dude! Thanks Jack and everyone else who took the time to offer suggestions. Guess I was saved by the bell this time. This forum is indispensable! It sounds silly BUT IT WORKED!!! Thanks a lot Mesaone!

Thanks Jack and everyone else who took the time to offer suggestions. Guess I was saved by the bell this time. This forum is indispensable! Glad you got it sorted. Windows can get a little strange with the USB ports sometimes. Makes the word 'universal' look out of place. Maybe the name should be changed to 'SUSB' - Sometimes Universal Serial Buss.
